Additional Information:

The Gorilla Permits required for trekking are an essential part of the tour and should be booked well in advance, as the number of permits available each day is limited. Gorilla trekking can be physically demanding due to the steep, sometimes muddy trails, so a moderate level of fitness is recommended. Though the trek can be challenging, your guide will adjust the pace to suit your ability, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience.

For the trek, we recommend packing sturdy hiking boots, long sleeves, gloves, a waterproof jacket, and insect repellent to ensure comfort and safety during the hike. Don’t forget to bring a camera to capture the unforgettable moments with the mountain gorillas.

Itinerary

On the first day of your adventure, you will be picked up either from Entebbe Airport or your hotel in Kampala, where you will meet your guide for a scenic drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The journey takes about 6-7 hours, providing plenty of time to take in the beautiful landscapes of Uganda, from rolling hills and lush forests to rural villages. During the drive, you may also stop at Igongo Cultural Center for a brief cultural experience and meal. Upon arrival at Queen Elizabeth National Park, you will check into your lodge and, depending on your arrival time, enjoy the park’s serene atmosphere. If you have some extra time, you can go for a short evening game drive to catch glimpses of wildlife in the park.

On the second day, your morning starts early with a game drive through Queen Elizabeth National Park, one of Uganda’s most famous wildlife parks. The park is home to an incredible array of animals, including elephants, buffaloes, lions, and various antelope species. Depending on where you go, you may even have the chance to spot the park’s famous tree-climbing lions, especially in the Ishasha sector.

After the game drive, you will return to the lodge for lunch before embarking on an afternoon boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, a 40-kilometer waterway connecting Lake George and Lake Edward. The boat cruise is the perfect opportunity to see the park’s diverse wildlife up close, including hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species. After the cruise, return to your lodge for dinner and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of Queen Elizabeth National Park.

After breakfast, you will begin your journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, which takes about 4-5 hours by road. Bwindi is renowned for its dense rainforests and is home to over half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. As you drive through the stunning landscapes, you will pass through small villages and terraced farmlands, offering a glimpse of rural life in Uganda.

Upon arrival in Bwindi, you will check into your lodge, which is nestled amidst the forest’s beauty. If time allows, you may have the option of taking a short cultural walk to meet the Batwa community or enjoying a cultural dance performance at the lodge. After a long day of travel, enjoy a relaxing evening at the lodge, surrounded by the peaceful atmosphere of Bwindi.

The highlight of the tour comes on day four with an unforgettable gorilla trekking experience. After an early breakfast, you will head to the park headquarters for a briefing about the trek. The adventure begins with a guided trek through the dense, lush forests of Bwindi, where you may encounter other wildlife, such as primates, chameleons, and diverse bird species. Gorilla trekking in Bwindi typically takes between 2 and 8 hours, depending on where the gorillas are located. Once you find the gorilla family assigned to you, you will have the chance to spend an unforgettable hour observing them as they interact, play, and feed in their natural habitat. The experience is truly magical and offers an opportunity to learn about the gorillas’ behavior, the forest ecosystem, and the ongoing conservation efforts.

After the trek, you will return to the lodge for lunch and enjoy some time to reflect on the incredible experience. If you still have energy, you can opt for a visit to the Batwa pygmies, who are the indigenous people of the area. They will share with you their fascinating culture and traditional way of life in the forest. In the late afternoon, depending on your departure time, you will either begin your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe (a long 8-hour drive) or head to Kisoro Airport for your flight back.
